Weaving the web of interconnection
Weaving threads, weaving story :: metaphors for weaving are deeply ingrained in our lives. The way we weave our lives, guiding thread in and out can be seen when we look back at all we have woven. It too can be engaged in the present moment and carried forward as we begin to look for all the ways we can intentionally and intuitively weave the story of our existence, individually and collectively. When looked at in this way, all the imperfections of being human become a part of the greater tapestry. It is from this place that we will explore the basics of weaving, allowing the wild and untamed to come through our hands, taking the scattered, torn, and forgotten, along with the simple beauties, and weaving them together into a cohesive whole.
My intention is to share the grounding pleasure of working with fiber and building relationship with materiality and intuition. Together, we will set you up to begin a deep-dive into the exploration of your own creative process.
Please plan on bringing one of the following: a small frame loom, an old picture frame or stretcher canvas (nails, optional), four long thin sticks to use to build a small frame loom, or nails, hammer and a wall you can structure a small frame on. Additionally, please have a strong cotton warp or twine as well as yarn or strips of an old piece of clothing that is meaningful, hair, old fabric strips, collected flowers, or anything else that you would like to weave into your work. In the time leading up to the gathering, I will share some how-to’s on my social media for how to begin to structure and think about a frame and materiality. @tehyashea // tehyashea.com
